Our district is committed to closing the achievement gap and creating equity. AVID is a nation-wide program creating Achievement Via Individual Determination. Our students will overcome great obstacles on their way to college readiness. "With AVID, schools provide high expectations, access, and support students need to succeed in rigorous courses." www.avid.org College visits are an important step in helping students see themselves as college-bound. These visits will demystify college by exposing students early to college campuses, meeting with college admission representatives, building student confidence levels, educating parents, and exposing students to multiple post-secondary options. Every year, students bag groceries and look for other fundraising opportunities to pay for college visits. Teachers and administrators also apply for other grants to help fund the program. Additional costs include substitute teachers on field trip days, copies for the classroom, school supplies for the students, and scholarships for students' meals during field trips.
