The flexible seating options that I am requesting for my students will give them the option to ditch the desks and sit wherever they want in the classroom that best suits their personal needs and preferences. My students already feel a sense of ownership in the classroom because I refer to everything as "ours" instead of "mine." I want my students to feel safe and secure here at school. If you can help us create an "at-home" feel in our classroom, it would truly benefit their learning experience. In this classroom, we are family. I plan to use the kidney bean table as a small-group meeting area for when we need to pull guided reading groups, or simply have a small-group conversation. The big area rug will be used for when we need to have whole-group discussions or when I am doing a read-aloud to my students. All of the other flexible seating choices will allow students to have a little freedom instead of being confined to one desk all day long.
