My students need to learn life skills from a very young age. Making them aware of money, shopping, and teaching them financial literacy in a context they can understand is a critical part of my program. This year I have students in a variety of grades, from Pre K through 5th grade. I need a range of materials that span these ages and also address their unique abilities. The resources I am requesting include a book about shopping & grocery stores, following the lesson planning Learning Fin Lit through Grocery Shopping modified about financial literacy, to create food and snacks projects using the pots. Using these materials in conjunction with a field trip to the grocery store will assist the students in learning how to read a recipe, create a grocery shopping budget, how to select & purchase the materials, and then to come back, follow directions, and create an edible project that they can then proudly share with their classmates. This will certainly put a smile on their face and teach them true life & money skills. The students can make their own food and store the food in the fridge while we cook. We wouldn't want to have any food to go to waste. The younger students in my program will greatly benefit from some new financial literacy materials in my classroom to begin their education regarding money. Unique students need unique tools!
