This visitor will provide an interactive learning experience for my students, while connecting visual arts with all areas of the classroom curriculum. The two sessions will connect and enhance topics being covered in social studies and science. The first session is titled, "Navajo Pottery", students will learn about the process used by potters, philosophy of making the Navajo pottery, and the purpose. This enhances the information being covered in Social Studies. The fifth graders learn and study various Native American tribes, learning about their lifestyle and culture. The second session is titled, "Van Gogh Sunflowers", students learn about the artist and experiment with different techniques, and learn the difference between landscape, portrait, and still life. This layers information covered in science, when fifth grade studies plant life and famous historians and scientists.
