My classroom is only a year and a half old! I opened it up and everything was new! Now I need to add new materials for art, science, sensory, and language and literacy. I keep the children in my classroom for up to three years! Unlike a typical daycare, I can't reuse art and science activities as often and I need to be able to rotate materials to keep the children interested and interactive during our learning experiences. Having mixed age groups mean that I have a wide variety of developmental stages going on, so my classroom needs many more materials than a toddler room in daycare, to accommodate all the children in my class. Over the last year and a half, I have spent my own money to buy supplies so I could build lessons around what my children are interested in. This is why I am so glad I discovered DonorsChoose! The art items on my list will help with creativity and motor skills. We have been working on cutting and pasting with the older toddlers and just pasting with the younger ones. The foam and wooden shapes, as well as the fabric pieces, will challenge them when they are pasting because they have only used paper so far. The boys in my class can always be found in the block area! I want to give them new materials to be creative with and encourage more cooperative play! The builders on my list can be used in our block area, our science and sensory area, and our manipulative area because they are smaller and have magnets in them! The books I chose are especially important because a lot of them have real-world pictures. Connecting new and known concepts is key in children's development.
