My students are minimally verbal and non verbal and use alternate and augmentative communication (AAC) to express their wants and needs. It is important for my students to learn how to use picture symbols to communicate with a variety of people for a variety of needs. Core vocabulary words are high frequency, reusable, generic words, and they comprise of 80-90% of the words we use (e.g., want, more, put, I, mine, go, all done). These books will help to teach the core vocabulary words in a meaningful way. The words targeted will be: hi/bye, yes/no, good/bad, bathroom, more/finished, stop/go, my turn, please/thank you, happy/sad. The clear folders will be used to store the adapted materials used for each book.
