My students are special needs, middle school children in grades 3-8, in a K-8, Title I elementary school in an urban district in New Jersey. Many of them are socioeconomically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced lunch. Most of them do not have access to technology at home, and if they do have a computer, they often do not have access to the Internet. They all have Individual Education Plans with a variety of disabilities. They come to the resource room for specialized reading and writing instruction in small groups. Some of them have fine motor problems that make writing by hand a chore, but computers help their ideas flow and to get their message across. Many of them are far below grade level, but they come to class everyday excited about everything they are learning.
