We were able to come across a book shelf that is now packed with reading materials from National Geographic, comics, picture books, student magazines, and chapter books. Though there may be a variety of books and magazines to choose from, it can be overwhelming. By having book bins that are labeled, I can help students to choose a genre they are interested in and also pick something that is in their reading range. But who wants to grab a book, sit in a hard chair, and lean over a tabletop to read? To have a furnished reading nook would get the students excited about having a place to read their favorite book or perhaps begin the love of reading. I believe it is important that students have independent reading time each day. While looking for ways students could achieve this, I was inspired by a Pinterest post to create this reading nook. I want an area that is inviting and cozy; an area students know they can relax while they turn the pages. I also want extra pillows for students who want to be away from others so they may concentrate but also be comfortable. That is why I would like to have individual pillows for each student so that they can flip their seats upside down and place a pillow behind their back as a self-made lounge chair. With help, my students can have a comfy bench to sit on, soft pillows to lay against, and a plush rug to lay across in order to get comfortable before they dive into a great book.
