I want to ensure that middle school students have access to engaging titles. I worked with these students in grades 4 and 5 and have the opportunity to reconnect with them at the middle school level. Their favorite part of library class in the younger grades was watching book trailers to get book recommendations. I am still doing a weekly blog post of 5 reading recommendations for students, faculty, and families. Through my weekly blog I hope to remind students that although they no longer have a weekly library class, their vibrant reading lives do not need to slow down. I am sure to include titles with "ownvoices" - titles calling attention to stories written by and about the same marginalized group as the author as well as informational books and other high-interest titles.
