Kindergarten is a very important time in every student's literacy journey. They are learning how to recognize letters and words, sound out words, and develop necessary skills to become successful readers. The lessons and skills my students learn now will set the foundation for their entire school career as readers. Because of this, it is vital that my students have multiple, diverse literacy resources available to them. I believe one of these resources should be tablets. Tablets are a great literacy resource because they are engaging and allow students to access multiple educational websites and apps. One of the apps I would like to utilize in my classroom through tablets is Osmo. This is a hands-on app/program that can help my students become strong readers, as well as strong mathematicians. Osmo allows students to read and form words by manipulating letter tiles that the tablet scans and shows on screen. Osmo also allows students to manipulate number tiles and tangram pieces to develop a better understanding of mathematics skills. By funding my project you would be helping my classroom add tablets and Osmo to our daily learning schedule.
