If you've ever met one child with autism, then you've met one child with autism. No two children on the spectrum are alike! Our students range from almost completely non verbal to extremely high functioning. Some of them crave calming items such as weighted blankets, special seating to rock in, and noise blocking headphones. Others need more stimulating activities such as manipulatives with interesting textures and colors. Right now, we have a limited number of items available in our sensory room. As a small rural school we are on a very tight budget. The state recently removed all of our funding for over half of our students receiving speech therapy, many of whom are on the spectrum. Teachers are asked more and more to provide items for school out of their own "pockets." Help me create the perfect space that meets the needs of our growing family of students on the spectrum!
