The books that I am requesting will help my students develop a love for reading. Each day we have time for a read aloud and I try to choose books with vivid vocabulary to show my students that reading is not a chore, but a great and enjoyable pastime. Each day I hear, "That was the best book." I also use these picture books to teach essential skills that students need for comprehension. Visualizing, prediction, making connections, and questioning are only a few of these skills. It is very easy to find stories on the internet for my students to listen to but that is not the same as having the book in your hands. It becomes more personal. Without books, it is hard to instill that love for reading.
