Contributing to this project will help get our school's first extracurricular club off the ground. At a rural K-12 school that typically graduates no more than 15 students in a single class, it can be easy for extracurricular activities like a debate club to fall by the wayside, but that doesn't mean our students want it any less! The brilliant students at my school have boundless potential to grow and excel as debaters, and more than 30 (of the high school's approximately 45 students) have signed up for debate club already! We hope to offer them the opportunity to participate in activities like student government, mock trial, model United Nations, as well as traditional Lincoln-Douglas debate. In this respect, debate club could serve as a space for students with varied interests, goals, and skills to improve as leaders and learners, and above all else to find their voice! These podiums will give our new club a place to get started and show my students their school is taking debate seriously.
