I service English Language Learners in high need school in Sunset Park Brooklyn. My Kindergarten students make up 30?% of the 350 English Language Learners in our building. 10% of my K students are newly settled immigrants from many different countries including Mexico, DR, China, and Yemen. Few have attended Pre-K and most start school without any native language literacy. In the 2010-2011 school year many of our Kindergarten classes are overcrowded and have 25+ students. Teachers struggle to meet the diverse language needs of these students when there are so many students in each class.
