Carpet time is a very important and special time in 1st grade. We do a lot of learning and growing at the carpet. During calendar, we learn the months, days, seasons, and all about holidays. We learn to count in different ways including 1-120, skip counting by 5's, 10's, and even and odd numbers. We work on our letters, letter sounds, sights words and learn to spell at the carpet. We do a lot of learning at the carpet. However, I think our favorite thing about the carpet is story time. We read lots and lots of books at the carpet. This carpet is special because it would allow each student to have their own square to feel safe and have ownership of their own spot.
