My name is Alyson Furnback, I am a special education teacher at Martin Luther King Middle School. My goal at King is to provide students affected by moderate to severe disabilities the opportunities and supports necessary to be included in their school and community. Some of the students I support at King are affected by disabilities that affect their ability to communicate via traditional means. Many of these students utilize augmentative and alternative communication to express their wants and needs. Some of our students use gestures, pictures, and tablet based devices programmed with special communication software to express themselves. I am creating this project, the King Cobra Coffee Cart, to support these students as they learn that communication is the key to their community!
