The materials I have requested will ensure my classroom truly feels like a place where my students can become strong readers and writers. In my 5 years of teaching English, I've learned that they ALL have stories to tell; some harder to tell than others. Many of my students come from economic hardships and complicated family situations. I try my best to make MY classroom a comfortable environment where students can feel safe to talk and write about their experiences, no matter what they may be. Today's kids need an outlet and safe place to be themselves, discuss their challenges and find community in their peers. With comfy seating options, I can create not only an effective writing environment, but a sort of sanctuary for all students. In addition to a comfortable environment, these items will help me build a meeting center where we can come together as a class and discuss accomplishments of the day, challenges, goals and just catch up. Writing itself is an intimidating, lengthy, frustrating process. These items will no doubt transform my classroom into a warm, friendly, safe space and surely foster the creativity of young writers.
