In the realm of language learning, students engage in various types of communication. They speak to one another, they present to one another, and they discuss cultural comparisons. In addition, they engage in interpretive communication by making sense of written and spoken language. My students need access to literature written in French so that they can become language detectives! The more that my students are able to scan the pages of these books, the more likely it is that they will begin to internalize the structure of the language. They will unlock the clues to French. I plan to use these books to start a classroom library that is filled with high interest reading in French! My students will have weekly, if not daily, time during class to read and make sense of what they see. This opportunity for them to hold and read books in another language is invaluable. I look forward to their discovering how much they are able to understand.
