The items I have selected for my project are geared towards elementary students just beginning to learn computer science. I would like them to have hands on experiences before moving to coding on a computer. Code-a-Pillar, Dot and Dash are visual programming toys that teach computational thinking skills like logic, algorithms, decomposition, and patterns. They also inroduce programming skills such as loops and sequencing in a creative format to encourage and motivate further computer science learning. The ALEX Toy Future Coders are small robots with coding challenges to further students' computer science skills by incorporating more problem-solving into the skills introduced earlier. Set in the context of a game, it keeps student interest high as they practice their new computer science skills. Think Fun Code Master is a more advanced game for solving programming puzzles with 60 levels to keep even the most advanced young students challenged! And finally, the book Get Coding is for students who prefer to work alone and independently in their learning. The variety of materials requested is better reach students with differentiated instruction for all levels of skills in the area of computer science so all students are moving forward in their learning each day.
