Creating a CALMING environment (plants, infuser, fan, noise canceling earbuds) and showing students how to learn through PLAY (various games on my wish list) are vital to making the most of the language acquisition process. Many of my students suffer from trauma, criminalization, lack of food, and insecure housing (99% qualify for free meals at school). While the students' needs can be overwhelming, many see school as a lifeline, are looking for adults who can support/guide them and are eager to find their way in the world. As an educator, I encourage my students to find the delight in their own process (not fear failure): celebrate the small successes and laugh off the inevitable mistakes along the way. For me, my students’ growth is not measured by their perfection but rather their willingness to push themselves into the unknown and not give up!
