I want to create a classroom library experience that better represents the cultural diversity in my classroom. Having a mix of both English and Spanish fiction novels to choose from validates the cultural mix in my room. Spanish speaking students will feel validated by having rich Spanish text to choose from during our literacy block. My English learners always appreciate and are eager to read new novels. All students in my classroom will benefit from an expanded classroom library that encompasses a full spectrum of leveled reading books, as well as accessible text for my Spanish speakers. I need more books to keep my students motivated to read. The more my students read, the more they learn. Spanish texts will keep my Spanish speakers motivated to read while they work hard to learn English.
