I have asked for a rug and a set of math manipulatives. With this rug the students will know where to sit during our meeting times and during the lessons. Everyday we have our Morning Meeting times where the students bond and get to know each other. This is necessary to build relationships. We also have a wonderful reading and writing program and the students are asked to meet at the front of the classroom during the lesson opener for Reading and Writing workshops. This is also the area for Read Aloud and Shared Reading. This would also be a great area where the students meet to play math games! A rug is an expensive item but necessary for the students' learning. I also asked for a set of Magna-Tiles - Starter Set. These tiles provide students a way to explore math concepts as geometry, symmetry, area and perimeter which is part of the second grade math curriculum. Kids just love them!
