Xylophones are an incredibly versatile addition to the music room. They can be used for everything from a kindergartener still practicing how to keep a steady beat- to a third grader learning to play a pattern while a partner sings to a fifth grader who can perform an independent piece that they have rehearsed. Xylophones, with bars that coordinate with the "musical alphabet," are a great way that many students begin reading music on the staff. They also provide students with a foundation of skills that translates to other instruments like piano. Every child can learn something from a xylophone! The kids feel great about themselves while playing them, too. Holding the mallets in their hands and practicing bouncing them on the correct bars makes the students feel like they make music the same way professional performers do. Xylophones are often one of the first "real" instruments the kids get to use and you can see the excitement on their faces when they know they get to play one!
