With these new books, students will get to spend the year doing novel studies, while also relating the content to classic novels. "All American Boys" will be paired with "To Kill a Mockingbird" for 9th graders. "Long Way Down" will be paired with "The Outsiders" for 7th and 8th graders. These classic novels paired with modern day versions will allow students to see that problems facing our society today are not new problems. These students will be able to draw connections between the books, as well as, to the real world. This will help them see that the issues are universal and affect everybody and every culture in different ways. These novel studies will help them open their eyes to the world and teach them things they never thought possible. Students will get to see through new perspectives and learn that everyone has differences. They will learn that it's the differences that make us special. These students can only learn and become better people from these lessons.
