Students love to have choices about their guided reading materials and physical classroom space which teaches them higher-order thinking skills. The guided reading books and classroom furniture will be an asset to our classroom. Seating options which allow students to be comfortable will assist with engagement. The books and stools will be perfect during guided reading, providing an area for tranquility. The 4 sets of five stools will allow for flexible seating during guided reading and will take up less space in the classroom allowing freedom of movement and activities. The balance balls are cozy and comfortable and would be perfect for the calm down area. I have been doing much research on the topic of flexible seating within classrooms this summer and know that the benefits will be plentiful. Children have lots of energy that they need to release. Hence movement is vital. Flexible seating will enable them to wobble, rock, lean or stand which increases oxygen flow to the brain. It will also keep their minds alert and focused. Having guided reading books and flexible seating will encourage my students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive.
