When a teacher says "critical thinking," many automatically assume it is for math or technology classes; however, to become great writers and find a unique voice, students must learn to think with logic and creativity. A primary focus in my English classes for upper elementary age students is to help them learn to problem solve and think critically. Breakout EDU is a platform that brings the challenge of an escape room to the classroom encouraging critical thinking and teamwork among students. Your donation to my project is greatly appreciated and will help engage students in collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, while bolstering communication skills. Escape rooms are all the rage! What a fun way to learn English standards in the classroom! The re-settable items in a Breakout EDU kit create a "hands-on immersive experience for students where they work collaboratively with peers and use critical thinking to solve content-aligned challenges." There are so many options with these kits: grammar scavenger hunts, library mix-ups. One I am particularly excited about is, A Midsummer Night's Dance, as I teach that Shakespeare play to my 5th grader's each year. There are endless engagement options with this platform to help encourage and challenge ALL my learners!
