This project will make a difference in the learning of my students because my students come from many different experiences and backgrounds. It is difficult for some of them to relate to characters and enjoy reading. My project allows for a diverse selection of characters for my students to be able to pick from for their independent reading books. My hope is that with these books in my library my students will be engaged in reading and grow to love books and the stories they tell. Gaining high interest books, such as these in the project, will allow for an update to my classroom library. My classroom has evolved into a space where student choice is paramount and time to read is sacred because they have limited options for appropriate books and reading time at home. I have based these books from what I know will interest them and from what they do not have a lot of access to in the library because they are always checked out. Giving my students the choice to have these books will empower them to continue reading and enjoy the journey.
