Students will prepare one monologue and sonnet for performance before a panel of qualified judges per the ESU competition guidelines. The school's winner will go on to compete at the state semi-finals and possibly the final competition, to be held at Lincoln Center in April of 2020. The competition provides a framework around which to allow students a deep dive into the heightened experience of mind and body that is performing Shakespeare's work. Having the opportunity to speak and think along with Shakespeare's characters calls forth a heightened engagement not only with the language, but with the world they inhabit.

About my class
