This year, our high school students will be opening a school store. The special education students will operate the store under the guidance of teachers in the multiple disabilities program. The store will have materials for the entire high school population to purchase. More importantly, it will provide our special education students with some of the most essential skills needed to live independently after graduation. The special education students are in need of a Cricut machine, mats, and tools to create greeting cards that will be sold in the school store. By funding this project, you are providing necessary materials for our special education students to increase their leisure skills, entrepreneurship skills, money management, social skills, and soft employability skills. The students will personally design and piece together the greeting cards with the Cricut machine. After the products are assembled, the students will sell these items in the school store. Through this real-life experience, the students will be able to practice their 21st century life and career skills, career ready practices, and personal financial literacy skills. These skills include, acting as a responsible and contributing citizen and employee; applying appropriate academic and technical skills; attending to personal health and financial well-being; communicating clearly and effectively and with reason; considering the environmental, social and economic impacts of decisions; demonstrating creativity and innovation; employing valid and reliable research strategies; utilizing critical thinking to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them; modeling integrity, ethical leadership and effective management; planning education and career paths aligned to personal goals; using technology to enhance productivity; and working productively in teams while using cultural global competence. Let's work together to develop independence in our special needs students!
