When you picture a classroom in your mind, you probably see straight rows of desks, right? However, this typical classroom setup isn't always the best for student learning and achievement. Developmentally, second graders need to move around frequently. In order for my students to learn best, I need to rethink the traditional setup for my classroom. After researching creative classroom spaces, these crates will help create a classroom community in which my students will thrive during their second grade year and beyond! Your donation will foster flexible space in which students have choices and ownership over how we use our classroom. Using crates as work areas will allow us to have more space in order to have community morning meetings everyday. Students will be able to rearrange the space in order to meet in pairs and groups. If a few students want to do some shared reading, all it will take is rearranging a few crates! A student needs a little nook to focus on their independent reading - just move a crate! Push a few crates together, and there is a stage for reader's theater! We need space to get up and move around in the classroom, then all we need to do is stack the crates! These possibilities are just the ones of which I have thought. I can't wait to see what other ideas my students come up with!
