These Hot Dot Pens will be used in my independent math centers that all of my students use on a daily basis. My classroom is organized by differentiating my students into three groups based upon their math abilities. This allows students to grow and learn at their own pace and never feel intimidated by other more advanced students. This set-up allows me to deliver my lessons at three different paces: accelerated, average and slower paced. While I am teaching one of my small groups of approximately 8 students, the other 16 students are engaged in independent center activities. These activities are not just worksheets, but rather handheld electronics, purchased mathematical manipulatives or teacher created activities. The Hot Dot pens are used on a daily basis in 2 of my centers which puts the power of the students' learning in their hands allowing them to work at their own pace and improving their responsibility and confidence. These pens are used in centers where a stack of interactive, fully illustrated cards present questions to the student. The student selects an answer to the question by placing the pen on a magnetized "dot" on the card. These pens give the students instant feedback on their answer. The pen can flash a green or red light or give verbal feedback to let the student know if their answer is correct or not.
