The geo-reflector kit (MIRA set) is my top pick on my classroom wishlist. A MIRA is a reflective tool used to help students draw symmetric images and accurately perform geometric transformations. When Woodlawn High School was remodeled last year, the math department's set of manipulatives (hands-on tools) were thrown out with the construction waste! Without these manipulatives, our students will miss out on the joy of discovering geometry independently. Using a quality compass and makes all the difference when drawing and measuring circles, angles, and lines (and we do a lot of that in geometry.) The compasses I chose keep the drawing lead firm and steady during use. Many discounted compasses sold as school supplies do not hold up to repeated use. The three-dimensional geometric shapes with two-dimensional nets help students visualize the relationships of volume and surface area in three dimensions with area and perimeter in two dimensions. Hamburger patty paper is another great tracing tool and can be folded and layered. I have a book filled with activities that use patty paper in geometry class.
