The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students typically come in backpacks worn by students on the first day of school. However, for my students, they most likely gotten themselves and their siblings dressed, and walked their siblings to school, all before 8:30. Asking my extremely resilient students to bring a backpack full of supplies is anxiety inducing for both them and their families. To prevent all of this stress during the first week of school, I would love for my students to walk into a classroom that is already filled with supplies that will assist them in meeting their academic potential this upcoming school year. Most of the things we learn in the first two weeks of school are routines and procedures. There are so many things an 7 year old needs to remember in second grade, and having this displayed on the larger post-it chart paper will make for a much easier school day, with more time to learn and get to know each other. The classroom mailbox will be used to organize student work so that each student can see their progression over the course of the year! Other materials such as pencils, crayons, Expo markers, glue sticks, and supply caddies will allow my students to complete their classwork and will help keep our classroom organized and tidy so students do not feel overwhelmed. Many students at my school have low food security so the snacks I am requesting will help keep my students full and focused throughout the school day. I will use the Play-Doh to keep the hands busy of my more excited students. Lastly, things such as the Clorox and tissue boxes will keep my students clean and ultimately healthier so no days of school are missed!
