Because students in my classroom are being taught co-regulation and self-regulation skills, I utilize many sensory tools to maintain a calm, focused state of learning. The tools I have requested are used to move the students out of a dis-regulated zone and back into a regulated social/emotional status. The students in my classroom will use these each year, impacting hundreds of students. Kids might be angry and need to take a break and use a calming tool, like a squishy ball. Students might redirect by focusing on something new like a fidget tool. Often kids who are anxious or wiggly benefit from wobble chairs.
