Our school is a public charter school and my students predominantly live in an urban setting. They are students who strive to encompass our school's mission of leadership, entrepreneurship and good character. As a public charter school, we receive one-third of the funding of traditional public schools in our area of the state. Many of our students arrive to school hungry because they can't afford lunch. My goal is to provide healthy snacks to fill the stomachs of my students in a safe and judgement-free space. As the school counselor, I strive to provide an environment where my students feel validated and respected.
