Please help me to create a library of well-organized books that I can use with my students who have speech and language difficulties. I will be reading books to individuals and small groups. Students will participate by producing specific words or phrases to practice their speech/language targets. The books with a social-emotional focus will be a perfect springboard for carryover of pragmatic/social language skills. Literacy-based intervention is one of the most effective methods for targeting a wide variety of communication disorders including articulation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency of speech, appropriate voicing and social/pragmatic skills. The students vary by grade and ability so a diverse collection of books is a wonderful way to address a multitude of needs. Having the books in my room gives students more access and allows me to develop additional materials to facilitate carryover. Thank you for your consideration of this important need in our school!
