Middle schoolers still want to be kids and socialize and roam around, but in a school setting, they have to reign in some of their energy and contain it to a desk. That is very difficult for some students who really need the ability to move as they work. These flexible seating options will enable students to keep their minds on learning while their bodies can move. I have a handful of students in mind, in particular, who consistently feel the need to wander the room and release excess energy in order to focus. Even as adults, we often need to get up and move from time to time to reorient our brains and get focused. I have seen tremendous work come out of my students when they are able to lay on the floor and stand in groups to work. Through the use of flexible seating options, my students can build these community groups more comfortably and also get their wiggles out.
