My plan is to use this set of books to complement other dystopian novels and thereby allow my approximately 80 students to choose the novel that interests them most. The Advanced Placement Literature curriculum allows teachers to choose from a wide range of novels from various literary periods, genres, and regions of the world. I like to pass choice and ownership to my students as much as possible, and having variety in their novel choice is one way I can achieve this goal. I choose this novel because the author is female, in contrast to the other dystopian novels that I have to offer which were written by men.
