Providing my students with a classroom library with novels that reflect their personal interests, cultures, and identities will cultivate a love for reading. I've found that often times, the reluctant readers are those students who have never been able to identify with their characters they are reading about. When teachers are able to provide a variety of stories which reflect the differences in their classroom they are telling students, regardless of their background, that they are welcome. Students needs to feel welcome at school. By reading stories about characters with whom they might have something in common, we are telling students they are welcome. Choice reading also allows students to practice reading skills in small groups with texts at their reading level. Book clubs will simultaneously allow students to support each other and cultivate a love for reading
