Literacy is probably at the top of all parents' list of what they want their children to achieve when they first enter school. We all want bright, smart children, which is why I spend so much time choosing the right books to read to my kindergartners. They love a good story, and looking at the pages of big books, peeks their interests and makes the stories come to life. I know that I have the power to boost my students' learning potential simply by making books an integral part of their lives. My students sit quietly while I am reading books aloud to them. They do not know yet that this stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. Or that it helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. They only know that they have fallen in love with the characters and long to hear more. Even after my students learn to read by themselves, it will still be important for us to read aloud together. My students need a big book easel and books, especially ones written by great authors like Eric Carl, to improve their literacy. Donations to my project will not only do that, but will give me the resources I need to help improve my their understanding of literature. You can help build a room of not only great readers but inquisitive thinkers.
