My elementary students have social-emotional challenges which means that they need extra supports to regulate their emotions so they can focus on their learning. They also crave movement in the classroom. Typical desk and chair set-ups do not provide adequate opportunities to move while learning. This is when adaptive seating can come to the rescue! I need and appreciate your support to make this vision happen for the two classrooms I serve! As an occupational therapist, I am confident that the Howda Hug seats will provide sensory input to my students so that they can learn in a calm, attentive state. Students will be able to feel "hugged" by their Howda Hug seats, which allows them to be grounded and calm. Moreover, the slow and steady rocking motion will bolster focused attention and support posture. I envision students rocking back and forth at the carpet while actively engaging in the group lesson (with hands raised, eyes on the teacher, and listening ears). Lessons could involve a reading group, an educational video clip, a science demonstration, or a classroom meeting- to name a few. I hope to provide teachers with Howda Hug seats so their students can move in a non-disruptive manner and grow in their learning.
