Being able to incorporate technology in the classroom is a necessity, especially in the time we live in. All students learn differently and express themselves differently. Some do better in writing on paper while others do better with technology. In our school we are trying to expose our students to many different things, one of them being computer science. Having exposure to programs like computer science, as early as elementary grades, give students a better understanding of what it entails and can, later on, be a career in which they are familiar with and want to pursue. In order to integrate technology and programs like computer science into subject areas more efficiently and effectively, I need the resources available to me. I chose the Robot Mouse because it is a fun and creative way to engage students in learning the objective of the lesson while using computer science. I plan to use Robot Mouse in subject areas like math and reading. In math, for example, students will be given addition and/or subtraction equation. Different answers will be laid out in random spots across the board. Students will work collaboratively to figure out the answer and to program the mouse(using codes like move forward, turn left, turn right, etc.) to move across the board to the correct answer. This can also be used as a matching game with sight words. Students are given the opportunity to use many skills to complete a task in a fun and influential way. As for the need for headphones, my students take computer-based assessments, which monitors their academic progress. For assessments such as these, they require full concentration and minimal distractions. They need to be able to hear clearly what the computer is directing them to do in order to perform to their fullest potential.
