Computers, phones and tablets are everywhere. Ebooks are great, too. Even though I use technology in my classroom. I still use paper and hardback textbooks, sometimes. So, I try to find new ways to inspire my students to pick up, an actual, text, book or “script”, and read it. I’ve found that incorporating drama, puppetry and performance art in the literacy block, keeps my students engaged and excited about becoming fluent readers. Connecting reading to performing, will allow my students to appreciate the value of proficient and advanced level reading skills. It will also help them learn very important social skills.
