The books I chose for this project will be an invaluable addition to our classroom library. They will be read aloud, shared, and loved through independent reading every day. They will also be highlighted during National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15). In addition, we will participate in the Global Read Aloud picture book study of Yuli Morales for six weeks starting in the middle of October. We will be discussing and sharing our thoughts about Morale's books with classrooms across the world online and practicing global citizenship. Through these books, we will recognize the important presence and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate their heritage and culture. Students will have the opportunity to read fictional books in which Hispanic characters are the main characters and books written by Hispanic and Latino authors. While book access is important, it is also important that classroom book collections represent all of our students.
