Fraction Towers are an incredible tool for students to use when learning about fractions. In fourth grade, students are expected to: - Understand and reason about the size of fractions - Decompose fractions - Find equivalent fractions - Create mixed numbers - Add, subtract, and multiply fractions by whole numbers These skills require a concrete understanding of fractions and their sizes. For many of our students, they do not have this conceptual understanding and are not able to master grade level standards efficiently because of it. Fraction towers provide students with a concrete representation of fractions, and allow them to manipulate them with their hands. Being able to do this allows students to visually see and break apart the fractions they are working with. This tool gives a wide variety of learners an access point to help them perform and exceed grade level expectations.
