Regency England can feel lightyears away from 21st century Maine, but the question of how we can reach happily ever after remains as relevant as ever. Each student in my class will have the opportunity to choose which of the three adaptations of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice they are most interested in reading. By reading adaptations of Jane Austen's classic love story, my students will learn to question their own pride and prejudice and discover how the comedic structure helps us solve conflicts with love. This choice will also help my students buy-in to our discussions, which, in turn, will help them authentically question the ending. Does their novel reach a credible happily ever after? This opportunity to choose a novel will also help my students share their voices. With the support of their peers, each student will question the novel in a small literature circle.
