Room 4 is a mix of Kindergarten and First grade students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. In this room, we use both American Sign Language and Spoken/Written English. Most of the students come from homes where Spoken English is dominant, so they use American Sign Language at school. In Room 4, we believe in taking responsibility for ourselves and others. We believe in expressing and affirming our emotions. We believe that even if we don't like something - or people - we need to be kind anyway. Self-empowerment goes a long way in Room 4. Social Emotional Learning and experiencing things as hands-on as possible is number one in the room.
