According to Steve Jobs, “Everybody in this country should learn to program a computer, because it teaches you how to think.” Coding is so much more than programming a robot or writing lines of code to create a picture. Coding is also teaching perserverance, critical thinking and problem solving. These are all skills that our students need in this day and age. The STEM fields are also the fastest growing areas of occupation right now. I hope the Spheros can be used with the 7th grade students during their technology class but the skills they learn will spill over into all aspects of their learning. The 7th graders will begin to learn how to code with Spheros and get to watch their lines of code come to life as they move the Sphero through mazes and other challenges. I hope that students in our district can begin to see what else it other in fields that may have been closed off to them because of their social economic background!
