The students love taking their learning and applying it to something they are sure to use. We would use the measuring tapes and sticks to figure out materials needed to re-floor, re-paint and reinstall windows in different rooms around the school. The students begin by measuring rooms and recreating a floor plan with the dimensions. They then figure out the cost of the material needed to renovate the rooms using their measurements and given costs per material. The students really enjoy the project and we often have limited supplies to achieve the tasks that provide the students with real-life application activities. Having a class set would make our measuring projects and activities run a lot smoother!
