One big item that would make a difference is the spotlight presentation remote, since I use my Smartboard for everything and love displaying slides and visuals. This tool would help me walk around the classroom during lessons and continue pointing or magnifying important information on the board. I'd be able to click slides and play videos from anywhere in the room. This would be such an amazing addition to my classroom this year. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk. Unfortunately, most of the options I had when I taught 2nd grade are too small for 5th graders so I need to update sizes for stools, cushions, and lap desks. I also strive to create a classroom that feels cozy and leads to a productive, positive, calm environment. I try to choose decor items that help with organizing materials as well.
